Preschool and Elementary Teachers - 2020/2021 School Year

Possible grade levels include kindergarten through fourth grade, self-contained. We utilize the PYP Curriculum framework along with AERO standards and benchmarks. Teachers work with their grade-level team, PYP/Curriculum Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. We provide ongoing IB and professional training. Classrooms are small (15-22) and have teaching assistants to support individualized instruction. PYP experience is a plus but not required. MYP Individuals and Societies / AP World (Grade 9) - 2020/2021 School Year

This person will be teaching our HS overflow classes which may include the following: Humanities (English/Social Studies and Math/Science) as well as teaching a high school elective in the Advanced Placement program. They will work with their department teams, MYP/AP Coordinator and instructional coaches to continue to develop our curriculum and assessments. Preschool Music/ High School Drama Teacher - 2020/2021 School Year

This person will teach integrated music to preschool-aged students and work with the Art department, PYP/MYP Curriculum Coordinator, instructional coaches, and grade-level teams to continue to develop our interdisciplinary curriculum and assessments. Teach high school drama elective and direct the musical/variety show. Additional responsibilities include planning and executing school-wide events and assemblies. Knowledge of PYP and MYP curriculum is preferred. What professional development do you offer?

In addition to weekly collaborative PYP and MYP planning,
Pan American teachers have the support of curriculum coordinators
and instructional coaches. Also, there are funds allocated to professional development
in the school budget.

What is the average class size?

The average class size is
16 students, with a maximum number of 22 students in primary classrooms, and 25 in secondary classrooms
.

What is a typical teaching load?

We are a small school and teachers wear many different hats, however, there are several opportunities during the day for planning both individually and collaboratively. The last Friday of every month is a half day for students. This allows teachers the chance for vertical and horizontal curriculum articulation time.

How is the work/life balance?

Pan American school hours are from Monday through Friday,
8:15 to 3 pm in preschool and 8 am to 3:15 pm for all other grade levels.
On Tuesday and Thursdays, teachers remain until 4:30 pm
for planning and collaboration meetings. Additionally, teaching staff
may be required to work some Saturdays in accordance with Brazilian law.

What is there to do in Porto Alegre?

Porto Alegre is one of Brazil’s major capitals with the largest number of wooded areas and parks. The most famous of these parks is the Farroupilha park. There you will find the Viana Araujo Auditorium where several political presentations and concerts have taken place. On Sundays, the parks hosts a street fair on the older side streets, that the locals refer to as Brique da Redenção.
In addition to the many other parks, the city also offers a variety of art, science and technology museums. The Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana, the home of local writer Mário Quintana offers visitors a great rooftop cafe to enjoy the sounds of the city. The Fundação Iberê Camargo art museum, sits on the shores of the Guaíba river where you can relax and watch the sun set.
