PAS POA Head of School Announcement

Dear PAS POA community,

 

It is with great pleasure that the Board announces that Ms. Shaysann Kaun Faria has been selected to become our next Head of School, effective July 2021. Ms. Shaysann was chosen from an international pool of impressive candidates after a very thorough search process in which all of our community’s constituencies were engaged. 

 

In Ms. Shaysann, we have found a vibrant and passionate educator, with strong academic and leadership experience, paired with interpersonal and communication skills that can help PAS POA build on Mr. Jeff’s solid and successful track record, continuing to strengthen the culture of our school, driving forward our mission and vision, ensuring we are leading the way.

 

Ms. Shaysann currently serves as Director of Learning and Teaching at Colegio Nueva Granada (CNG) in Bogota, where she leads, organizes, and strategically plans the work of all 14 academic leaders of the school, to provide K4‐12 learning programs to 1750 students and approximately 350 faculty/staff. Originally from the United States, she holds a Master’s of Education from the College of New Jersey and a Certificate of Advanced Educational Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Previous to her current role, she served as High School Principal at CNG, Middle School Principal in Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro and held teaching roles in Brazil and Japan. Over the last few years she was also committed to ensuring that her two Brazilian sons were able to graduate from an excellent international school (CNG) and as her oldest graduates next year, she is ready to embark in what she calls her dream challenge of being a Head of School here at PAS POA.

 

At CNG, her collaborative and solution-driven leadership style and in-depth knowledge of research-based best practices helped the school, which was underperforming, reach the highest level of performance in their 80-year history. She has impacted student learning, helping the school achieve significant measurable gains in standardized test performance across every subtest area with grade-level cohorts ahead of their peer groups across the region. As Director of Learning and Teaching she is also heavily involved in recruitment of teachers and top leadership, having collaborated in the hiring of 4 new principals and the Human Resources Director, along with ensuring effective onboarding.  She provides leadership to all learning programs, whether they are academic, social, emotional or focused on service learning or character education. Most of all, Ms.Shaysann brings passion for learning communities and believes that the work of learning is inclusive not only of students, but faculty, parents, and the broader community. Having visited PAS POA in 2014 as part of Cognia’s accreditation team, she understands that we are a community of lifelong learners and she is excited to become a part of it. 

 

This search would not have succeeded without the tireless efforts of the members of the Search Committee throughout this months-long search (Livia Viali, Danielle Fortes, Marcio Silveira and Lair Hanzen), along with the dedication and valuable insights of our Instructional Coach, Ms. Kristen Moreland and the expertise of our consultant at Search Associates— Dr. Gunther Brandt. The Board and the School are in their debt.

 

We also express our gratitude to our faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, former parents and alumni. What a wonderful community we have! Your insights into PAS POA’s past, present and future were indispensable in helping us identify the kind of leader we need. Your participation in the virtual ‘Meet the Candidates’ made Ms. Shaysann and our finalist candidates feel welcome and understand what truly makes our community unique.  

 

After benefitting from Mr. Jeff’s outstanding leadership for the past 12 years (plus one more to go!), we knew when we undertook this search that getting it right was vitally important. We are confident that Ms. Shaysann is the right leader for our school’s next chapter, just as we are optimistic that we will overcome the current challenges, embrace change and  thrive in the years  to come. 

 

Over the next year of transition, Mr. Jeff will continue to lead the School, and our community will have many opportunities to celebrate his enduring legacy.

É com grande satisfação que o Conselho anuncia que a Sra. Shaysann Kaun Faria foi selecionada para ser a nossa próxima Superintendente, a partir de julho de 2021. A Sra. Shaysann foi a escolhida de um grupo de candidatos internacionais impressionantes, após um processo de seleção minucioso que contou com a participação de todos os grupos constituintes da nossa comunidade.

 

Encontramos, na Sra. Shaysann, um educadora vibrante e apaixonada, com uma consistente experiência acadêmica e de liderança, combinada com habilidades interpessoais e de comunicação que podem ajudar a PAS POA a desenvolver a trajetória sólida e bem-sucedida já iniciada pelo Sr. Jeff, prosseguindo no fortalecimento da nossa escola, impulsionando nossa missão e visão e assegurando a nossa liderança.

 

Atualmente, a Sra. Shaysann atua como Diretora de Ensino e Aprendizagem no Colégio Nueva Granada (CNG) em Bogotá, onde lidera, organiza e planeja estrategicamente o trabalho de todos os 14 líderes acadêmicos da escola, para fornecer programas de aprendizagem K4-12 a 1750 alunos e aproximadamente 350 professores/funcionários. Nascida nos Estados Unidos, ela possui Mestrado em Educação pelo College of New Jersey e Certificado de Liderança Educacional Avançada da Harvard Graduate School of Education. Antes de seu cargo atual, ela trabalhou como diretora do High School no CNG, diretora do Ensino Médio na Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro e exerceu funções de professora no Brasil e no Japão. Nos últimos anos, ela também se dedicou a garantir que seus dois filhos brasileiros se formassem em uma excelente escola internacional (CNG) e, como o seu filho mais velho se forma no próximo ano, ela está pronta para embarcar no que ela chama de desafio dos sonhos, ser Superintendente aqui na PAS POA.

 

Na CNG, seu estilo de liderança colaborativa e orientada para soluções e seu conhecimento profundo das melhores práticas baseadas em pesquisa ajudaram a escola, que estava com baixo desempenho, a atingir o nível mais alto de desempenho em seus 80 anos de história. Ela influenciou na aprendizagem dos alunos, ajudando a escola a obter ganhos mensuráveis significativos no desempenho de testes padronizado em todas as áreas, com grupos de alunos liderando as suas séries pela região. Como Diretora de Ensino e Aprendizagem, ela também está intensamente envolvida no recrutamento de professores e lideranças, tendo colaborado na contratação de 4 novos diretores e do Diretor de Recursos Humanos, além de assegurar uma integração efetiva. Ela fornece liderança para os programas de aprendizagem, sejam eles acadêmicos, sociais, emocionais ou focados no voluntariado ou na educação de caráter. Acima de tudo, a Sra. Shaysann é apaixonada por comunidades de aprendizagem e acredita que o trabalho de aprendizagem é inclusivo não só para alunos, mas também para professores, pais e comunidade em geral. Tendo visitado a PAS POA em 2014 como membro da equipe de credenciamento da Cognia, ela entende que somos uma comunidade de aprendizes por toda a vida, e ela está entusiasmada para juntar-se a nós.

 

Este processo de seleção não teria sucesso sem o empenho incansável dos membros do Search Committee ao longo desta seleção de meses (Livia Viali, Danielle Fortes, Marcio Silveira e Lair Hanzen), juntamente com a dedicação e informações valiosas de nossa Instructional Coach, Sra. Kristen Moreland e da competência de nosso consultor na Search Associates – Dr. Gunther Brandt. O Conselho e a Escola estão em dívida.

 

Também expressamos nossa gratidão a nossos professores, funcionários, administradores, estudantes, pais, pais de ex-alunos e ex-alunos. Nós temos uma comunidade maravilhosa! Suas ideias sobre o passado, o presente e o futuro da PAS POA foram fundamentais para nos ajudar a identificar o tipo de líder de que precisamos. Sua participação na reunião virtual ‘Meet the Candidates’ fez com que Shaysann e nossos candidatos finalistas se sentissem acolhidos e entendessem o que realmente torna a nossa comunidade única.

 

Depois de nos beneficiarmos da excelente liderança do Sr. Jeff nos últimos 12 anos (e mais um a seguir!), sabíamos que era crucial fazer a escolha correta ao realizar essa seleção. Estamos confiantes de que a Sra. Shaysann é a líder certa para o próximo capítulo da nossa escola, assim como estamos otimistas de que vamos superar os desafios atuais, realizar mudanças e prosperar nos próximos anos.

 

Durante o próximo ano de transição, o Sr. Jeff continuará a liderar a Escola, e nossa comunidade terá muitas oportunidades para comemorar seu legado duradouro.
